Does Performance Score Affect RR in Valorant? No, So Stop Playing for It
MVP with a 380 Performance Score and still only +14 RR? That is not a bug. Riot says the score does not touch RR at all. Here is what does, and why playing for the number can lose you the next round.

The short answer: no. Riot’s own support page says Performance Score “does not influence any RR gain/loss values”. Your RR comes from the match result, the round difference, a small individual-performance factor and rank convergence. The 0 to 500 score is a review tool. Treat it as a reward contract and you will start making worse decisions to feed it.
- Performance Score decides MVP and scoreboard order, nothing on the ladder.
- RR is mostly win or loss plus round difference, then rank convergence. Individual play nudges it slightly, and even less at Immortal and Radiant.
- Use the score to ask questions about a match, never to choose what to do in a round.
“If I top the scoreboard with a huge Performance Score, the game should pay me more RR. MVP games are where you climb.”
✕ Verdict: FalseRiot states it plainly: Performance Score replaces ACS for MVP and scoreboard position, but it does not influence RR gains or losses. Round difference counts; the MVP badge does not.
0 RRdirectly from Performance ScoreThree Numbers, Three Jobs
Most of the confusion comes from mixing up three things Valorant tracks separately.
| Number | Visible? | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Performance Score (0 to 500) | Yes | Grades your match: picks MVP and scoreboard order |
| RR (Rank Rating) | Yes | Your progress inside a tier, 100 per tier |
| MMR | No | Your hidden skill estimate, used for matchmaking and to steer RR |
The score measures. RR rewards. MMR decides. They overlap because good play tends to show up in all three, but none of them is calculated from the scoreboard number.
What Actually Moves Your RR
Riot lists four factors, in roughly this order of weight:
- Match outcome. Win and you gain a base amount, lose and you drop one. You can never gain RR from a loss.
- Round difference. A 13-2 win pays more than 13-9. A close 11-13 loss costs less than 3-13.
- Individual performance. Damage and assists count, not just kills. It can slightly raise a gain or soften a loss, with even less effect at Immortal and Radiant.
- Rank convergence. If your hidden MMR sits above your rank, gains grow and losses shrink. Below, the reverse.
Notice the third factor. Individual play does matter a little. It is just not measured through the Performance Score you see, and it is small next to winning the match by a lot.
Goodhart’s Law, Valorant Edition
Economists call it Goodhart’s law: once a measure becomes a target, it stops being a good measure. The score rewards damage, adjusted kills and trades, so a player chasing it starts asking “what will look productive?” instead of “what wins this round?”
Those questions split in exactly the rounds that decide close games.
The chase. 1v3, 15 seconds left, spike down on the other site. You can hunt one more kill. Maybe you get it. More likely you die with your Vandal, the enemy picks it up, and your team starts the next round on a half buy. Your score might tick up. Your next round just got worse.
The save. Same spot, you hide and keep the rifle. Zero score gained, and your team buys fully next round. Nothing on the scoreboard credits that, and it is often the right call.
Judge the decision with the information you had, before you know how it ended. A lucky kill does not make a bad chase good. A lost duel does not make a sensible risk bad.
MVP games give bonus RR.
MVP is picked by Performance Score, and Riot says the score has no effect on RR.
Fragging more gets you more RR.
Individual performance has a small effect, measured separately and including damage and assists. Winning bigger matters far more.
A stomp win is worth more than a close one.
Round difference is one of Riot’s four named factors.
A low score in a win costs you RR.
You cannot lose RR from a win, and the score itself never enters the calculation.
Which Old Advice No Longer Applies?
| Older advice | Why it is out of date |
|---|---|
| “Check your ACS to see if you played well” | ACS was removed from these modes in patch 13.06 (September 2026). Performance Score replaced it. |
| “Top frag to get MVP” | MVP now follows Performance Score, which also counts trades, adjusted deaths, utility, plants and defuses. |
| “The new score undervalues fragging” | Riot raised the weight of damage, adjusted kills and adjusted deaths after launch, noted in patch 13.08. |
How To Use the Score Properly
Read it after the match, as a question. A 120 in a win? Look at when your impact happened: were you dying first, or just playing support well? A 400 in a loss? Find the rounds where it came from; often it is late damage in rounds that were already gone.
Then forget it while you play. In the round, the only question is the win condition: the spike, the clock, the economy, the numbers.
This is the same trap as headshot percentage: a stat that grades part of your game, read as if it graded all of it. We covered that in why your headshot % hides why you are stuck in Ascendant.
Which result pays you more RR, all else equal?
- 13-11 win, you were MVP
- 13-3 win, you were bottom of the board
- They pay the same
Round difference is one of the four RR factors. Performance Score is not.

FAQ
Does Performance Score affect RR in Valorant?
No. Riot’s support page says Performance Score does not influence any RR gain or loss values. It picks MVP and orders the scoreboard.
Why did I get low RR as MVP?
Your RR depends on the result, the round difference, a small individual factor and rank convergence. A close win, or a rank sitting above your MMR, gives small gains whatever your score.
What does Performance Score measure?
Damage, adjusted kills, adjusted deaths, trades, assists, utility use normalised per agent, spike plants and spike defuses, on a 0 to 500 scale.
Is ACS still in Valorant?
Not in Competitive, Unrated, Swiftplay or Premier. Performance Score replaced it in patch 13.06.
